Talk:Natives

From Barbarians of Gor

Those familiar with Conan Lore are allowed and encouraged to bring that knowledge to our server in the form of descendants of Earth’s Hyborian age. We use the term “Hyborian” to refer to all Conan cultures collectively, and do not mean “Hyperborian/Hyperborean” which is the blonde giant race of Conan.

Overview

Those familiar with Conan Lore are allowed and encouraged to bring that knowledge to our server in the form of descendants of Earth’s Hyborian age. We use the term “Hyborian” to refer to all Conan cultures collectively, and do not mean “Hyperborian/Hyperborean” which is the blonde giant race of Conan.

In many ways, your character is also Gorean, as it was born on this planet, but specifically and uniquely on this island of World’s End, or the surrounding islands, including New Sardar (the exile map) of Season 1. As we are a Gorean server, it is our intention to lean into the Gorean fiction, so please understand that your ancestors came here over 10,000 years ago, and very little of your ancient history is remembered as more than myth and legend.

You are welcome to play a derivation of any of the Conan cultures including; Dafari, Aesir, Vanir, Argossean, Aquilonian, etc. However, this is a small island, and there are only three main civilized towns, and only one of them is populated by natives. Consequently, most Hyborians living on the island live in small clannish groups where intermingling is common.

Hyborian, like Earthling, is a gateway race to playing the Gorean culture - it is not our intention to run a Conan Lore server. You will be expected to understand and align with the basic premises of Gorean life including male domination and non-consensual slavery.

While many Conan cultures have their own dialect or even language, it is assumed that your character can at least speak a common language known here as Hyborian. When you select this race you will receive a chat tag that precedes all of your text with [Hyb]. This tells everyone you are speaking in Hyborian Common. If you choose to speak or understand other languages, then simply make a point of demonstrating that in your role-play emotes.

Arrival
You were born and raised on this island or one of the surrounding islands.
Season One players, coming from New Sardar, will have arrived here on ships manned by the NPCs living in the hubs.

Not Exactly Conan

Natives on World's End are not exactly the same as the Conan races. While the easiest solution for our fiction is to imply that the natives are LIKE those races from Conan and may have perhaps originally been from Hyboria, millennia ago, there are some distinct differences:

What you must know about playing a Native on World's End.
  • We are on the planet of Gor, not on Hyboria age of Earth.
  • Natives do not speak Gorean, but may have learned it from another arrival over the last decade or so.
  • Natives are not familiar with any history beyond that of what can be known from the actual game environment. Consequently:
  • The wider Conan lore from the books is not known to them.
  • Natives do not know of any land area other than the game environment of World's End. (Those few who have learned Gorean may have been told about the main land/known world obviously.)
  • As it appears in the game environment, there are no native cities other than the three we have created.

Season Four
Season Four has began. We are in the process of upgrading our educational offerings, streamlining the application process, and onboarding new players. As always the wiki is a work in progress. As of Jul 9th, a significant re-organization was made.
